What It Is
“Glutathione, Cysteine & C” is a dietary supplement meant to support antioxidant protection inside your cells (intracellular antioxidants), with special support for liver health and oxidative stress. Key components:
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) — 500 mg per capsule
Reduced glutathione, a form of glutathione that’s active (Setria® brand) — 50 mg per capsule
L‑Cysteine hydrochloride — 200 mg per capsule
It comes in vegetarian capsules, is non‑GMO and gluten‑free.
Claimed Benefits & What It Helps With
This formula is intended to provide several antioxidant / detox / immune‑support benefits:
Supports the body’s detoxification systems, especially liver function
Helps neutralize free radicals to protect cells from oxidative damage
Helps maintain or restore glutathione levels (glutathione is one of the body’s key antioxidants)
Vitamin C helps regenerate glutathione (keep it in its active reduced form), supports immune function, enhances collagen synthesis, helps with iron absorption, etc.
Cysteine is a precursor/amino acid needed for glutathione production and also plays roles in detox pathways (e.g. phase II detoxification)
How It Works (Mechanism)
Glutathione is a tripeptide (made from amino acids) that acts as a major antioxidant inside cells; it helps neutralize toxins, reactive oxygen species, etc.
Cysteine provides sulfur and is one of the building blocks for glutathione production; having enough cysteine is often rate‑limiting in glutathione synthesis.
Vitamin C helps by regenerating glutathione (turning oxidized glutathione back into its reduced, active form), and also has its own antioxidant and cofactor roles.
Dosage & Usage
Typical dose: 1 capsule once to three times daily, usually on an empty stomach
A container typically has 100 capsules
Other ingredients: capsule shell, fillers / excipients like microcrystalline cellulose, silica, stearic acid
Strengths
Combines several elements that work synergistically: glutathione + precursor (cysteine) + vitamin C
Uses a well‑known branded form of glutathione (Setria®) which is considered good quality
High dose of vitamin C helps ensure antioxidant capacity and helps support many systems (immune, skin, etc.)
Relatively simple formula focused on antioxidants / detox / cellular protection
Potential Downsides / Things to Be Careful About
The body’s absorption of glutathione taken orally is limited; in many cases, the amount that actually makes it into cells is low (some may be broken down in digestion)
Some people may be sensitive to cysteine (digestive upset, sulfur odor, etc.)
High vitamin C doses can cause gastric irritation, diarrhea in sensitive individuals
Because it boosts detox pathways and interactions with liver enzymes, there is a possibility of interaction with medications or increased demand on liver/kidney; medical advice is wise especially if you have existing liver, kidney, or metabolic issues
